Christoph Hein is a German novelist and translator. He studied philosophy in Berlin and Leipzig at the end of the 1960s. Following graduation he became a drama adviser at the Volksbühne theatre in Berlin, where he worked as a resident writer. Eventually he became a freelance writer. His works cover various genres including plays, children books, essays, and novels.
