The main task of the Upper-Lusatian/Lower-Saxon cultural space is to financially support meaningful and important cultural institutions.
The highest decision-making body is the Cultural Convention. It adopts the articles of association, the budget, funding guidelines and priorities, and appoints the Cultural Advisory Council, which advises on technical matters. The Cultural Advisory Council consists of up to nine members representing the sponsored cultural sectors: environmental upkeep, support for music and music schools, museums and collections, fine arts, social culture, performing arts, libraries and literature, zoos, estate gardens and landscaped parks, and a representative for Sorbian cultural issues.
Specialist working groups for each of the cultural sectors are formed to support the Culture Advisory Board by examining funding applications, developing recommendations for funding and preparing resolutions. The integration of all cultural sectors into the advisory board should ensure balanced promotion.
