The full name of this association is 'The Saxon Memorial Foundation for Victims of Political Violence'. Its purpose is to preserve historical sites of abuse of political power and wrong-doing in the Free State of Saxony for their continued use in historical and political education programs. The foundation was created by the Saxon regional government in 1994.
